It was about today 3 months ago when Nyla was soon to be discharged from CHOC after a week in the hospital.
After a week with what I thought was some kind of flu bug that seemed very different she was ok but then off and on would say her tummy hurt and seemed out of it during night time. I thought nothing of it. Two weeks later the day after New Years Day she woke up saying her back hurt and her groin area. It just kept getting worse as the day went on and by night she could move without being in excruciating pain. We held off till the next morning still hoping it would go away. It didn't. We headed to urgent care who sent us to Hoag or CHOC but we opted for Hoag since it was right by us and she had to lay on one of us not buckled because of the pain. Hoag tried to figure it out and really couldn't so 3-4 hours later she was transported by ambulance to CHOC. And so that journey began.
She had different tests done and finally after 3 days she finally had a diagnosis. She basically contracted Strep A in her blood which then caused inflammation throughout her hip area.
It took another 3 days to really see a slight difference in the pain. But on that 7th day that we were hoping to get discharged she showed enough improvement that we were able to go home and finish up her recovery.
The recovery was the biggest roller coaster ever with lots of lows and uncertainty of she was heading in the right direction. Which landed her back in the hospital a week after getting discharged the first time.
Its nice to say after that crazy time in our lives that she seems to 100% back to normal as far as the pain. Her biggest hurdle is getting back into dance after losing 2 months of dance time and muscle strength. She's still working hard to get it back. But I'm proud how tough she has been even though I see her fight off tears after her first few full day practices back where she knew it just didn't feel the same and she seemed so scared.
